Alcohol Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

The Alcohol Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at the Delray Center for Recovery is the next step of treatment following inpatient or PHP levels of care. The IOP level of care is a critical transition between intensive care and the regular outpatient setting. The goal is to ease patients back into their full level of functioning while still providing a substantial degree of structure and support to prevent relapse. Individuals with less than a year of sobriety remain at high risk of relapse and benefit greatly from this support. Alcoholism poses special challenges due to the frequency that alcohol or alcohol related cues are encountered in the environment. These obstacles to sobriety and different from those seen in other forms of addiction and require specific interventions. The Phoenix Alcohol Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) was developed to address these needs. Many of the therapeutic modalities of the Phoenix PHP are utilized in the IOP.

The Phoenix Alcohol IOP includes:

  • Intensive individual psychotherapy
  • Traditional process group psychotherapy
  • Guided meditation
  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) relapse prevention group
  • Introduction to Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) group
  • Solution focused group
  • Relationship focused group
  • Men & Women’s gender issues focused process groups
  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) anxiety & depression group
  • Advanced psychopharmacology for relapse prevention
  • Advanced psychopharmacology for co-existing (dual diagnosis) psychiatric disorders
  • Group Acupuncture
  • Yin Yoga & Vinyasa yoga classes
  • Expressive Studio art
  • Program structure with twice weekly check-ins
  • Activity therapy & recreational therapy
  • Group fitness training with yoga, spinning and circuit training
  • Frequent and regular contact with clinical support staff

Family therapy, individual expressive therapies, massage, individual fitness and individual acupuncture can be added to the IOP as well.

The Phoenix Alcohol Intensive Outpatient Program is a part time program that covers certain parts of the day 3 to 5 days of the week, with strong therapeutic structure. The Program is designed and recommended for a minimum of 8 weeks. Patients that make the gradual transition from PHP to IOP and then to regular outpatient care have the best outcomes. Our many long-term success cases are still regularly seen at the center, making positive contributions to our therapeutic community. Strong connections to a therapeutic system and a supportive community are major predictors of treatment success. Patients at our IOP level of care have heavy involvement with the therapeutic community, which strengthens their support system and helps them avoid relapse. The Phoenix Alcohol Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) prepares patients for long-term success and sobriety.
